The Impact of a Pandemic: A Candid Conversation with State DOT Leaders 1:30pm - 2:30pm EDT

View Session
Overview

After over half of the states in the country took matters into their own hands in raising transportation infrastructure revenue, the COVID-19 pandemic struck in early 2020. Thus, departments of transportation (DOTs) face an unprecedented situation. In addition to the loss of revenue from state gas taxes and user fees, the uncertainty of long-term federal funding also looms on the horizon. This session will feature state DOTs, who are part of AASHTO leadership, describing how the pandemic has influenced the way they do business. They will discuss how they are leading given the current financial, engineering, and political situations in their states, providing insight to the path forward. Attendees will be able to have a discussion with AASHTO leaders about what the next few years hold for road construction.

Digital Transformation: E-Ticketing Today and Tomorrow

Overview

As the world deals with the impacts of COVID-19, construction companies are making changes to ensure social distancing and flatten the curve. One practice that could positively impact worker health is the digitization of paper tickets also called e-ticketing. While many states had historically been slow to pilot e-ticketing, COVID-19 has thrust this technology into the implementation forefront to help ensure roadway construction can follow CDC guidelines. However despite its importance, many agencies and contractors struggle to understand impacts of current regulations and other Federal requirements. Session attendees will learn about the Federal requirements and efforts related to e-ticketing, how some companies are preparing for and handling e-ticketing, and the latest technology research on how e-ticketing can be used in the future.
