The Impact of a Pandemic: A Candid Conversation with State DOT Leaders

After over half of the states in the country took matters into their own hands in raising transportation infrastructure revenue, the COVID-19 pandemic struck in early 2020. Thus, departments of transportation (DOTs) face an unprecedented situation. In addition to the loss of revenue from state gas taxes and user fees, the uncertainty of long-term federal funding also looms on the horizon. This session will feature state DOTs, who are part of AASHTO leadership, describing how the pandemic has influenced the way they do business. They will discuess how they are leading given the current financial, engineering, and political situations in their states, providing insight to the path forward. Attendees will be able to have a discussion with AASHTO leaders about what the next few years hold for road construction.
